The question went something like this “A woman was married to seven consecutive brothers. These brothers had married their brother’s widow hoping to raise up his offspring. In the resurrection, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had her.” You will find this in Matthew 22. Jesus told these questioners that they had basically two problems. First, they did not know the scriptures. Secondly, they did not know the power of God. He preceded to tell them that God is not the God of the dead but of the living. In other words, Abraham lives. Jacob lives. Isaac lives. They could give testimony of what they did one hundred years after they died! What do you and I plan to do a hundred years from now? Where do we plan to be? Who do we plan to be with? I know, salvation must be more than fire insurance. It must mean more than a fire escape. How much though does eternity bear on my mind and your mind? Have any of us bought into all the anti-aging, remain ever youthful looking stuff? Let’s now allow the easy life, the medical breakthroughs, and the expanding life expectancy fool us. We are all, like it or not, making a beeline to death and judgment. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus speaks of “…lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven.” Let the long stretch of eternity be a living influence on our lives. May the light of eternity shine upon all that we are and ever hope to be. Bro. Roger |
