| A Man Who Bought A Field |

In the 32nd chapter of Jeremiah God commanded Jeremiah to buy a field on the brink of the Babylonian captivity. It did not make sense from a human standpoint. It did make sense with God. I learned recently of the death of David Wilkerson. The tribute paid to him described him as “A Man of Unlimited Faith.” What a compliment to be paid!
The tribute put it this way “in 1958 (David Wilkerson) traveled from his small church in Phillipsburg, Pennsylvania, to reach out to gang members on trial in New York City. ‘He had never been to New York-he had certainly never met a gang member or a drug addict,’ according to his brother, Don Wilkerson. “He just came (there) with his simplicity, his naiveté, whatever you want to call it, and he changed people’s lives.” A New York Times reporter wrote “His method was an absolute model of simplicity, directness and total non-sophistication-he just went out on the streets and mixed with the kids and reasoned with them face-to-face, often quoting the Bible-and it worked.” It was the autobiography of Nicky Cruz, one of those gang members, God used to grip my life afresh as a teenager. A message echoed in my soul from that autobiography and the scriptures, the message? “Jesus is a life-changer.” II Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation, old things have passed away, and look, new things have come.”(HCSB) I thank God for a man willing to travel by faith out of a heart of love.
